As I was discussing work with my husband during lunch, my 4-year old paused me to ask “Ma, what is data?”. I have been waiting for this day for a while now, especially since I have been working from home and he must hear me say that word a LOT. So, I was prepared with this reply:
“That is an AMAZING question! Well, any little bits you know about something or someone is data. Like, you have 97 cars. That is data. Dadda loves Blazers. That is data. Can you think of any data?”
“I have 8 trucks and the firetruck is red.”
HIGH FIVES all around the house!!!!
Now, I am preparing for the day I have to explain my job to him.
How would you explain “data” to a 4-year-old?
